Dr. Guzmán is the newest member of the Harris Boulevard Veterinary Clinic team, joining us as an associate veterinarian in March 2013. She grew up in Austin, Texas, but currently resides in Charlotte. Dr. Guzmán received a BA degree in Sociology from the University of Texas-Austin in 1991. She then earned a Master's degree in Sociology/Counseling from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in 1993 before pursuing a veterinary degree from Colorado State University, graduating in 2008.
Previously, Dr. Guzmán practiced at veterinary clinics throughout New Mexico including: a small and large animal practice in Silver City; a small animal/exotic and equine practice in Deming; a small animal practice in Las Cruces; and a small animal practice in Santa Teresa. She was also a contract veterinarian at a wolf rescue/sanctuary. She is a licensed veterinary acupuncturist and her medical interests include exotic mammals, geriatrics, preventive medicine, and infectious disease as it relates to public health. She enjoys all of it!
In her free time, Dr. Guzmán enjoys hiking, trail running, and any indoor/outdoor activity that keeps her moving. Her hobbies include cooking, planting flowers, and reading. She often travels internationally to learn about other cultures and to see amazing places. Dr. Guzmán loves her menagerie of pets – Esperanza, a 10 year old miniature schnauzer; Mariposa, a 3 year old terrier mix; and Pingo, a very active 1-1/2 year old ferret.
